U.S. and Greek Fulbright Alumni Get-Together and Outreach to NTUA

On Wednesday, May 22, the Greek Association of Fulbright Scholars organized a get-together between local alumni and grantees and the U.S. Fulbright Scholars who were traveling as part of Fulbright Alumni Service Corps Trip to Greece. The event took place at the beautiful Athens University History Museum in Plaka with its magnificent roof terrace view over Athens. Welcome remarks by Jennifer Schueler, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Els Hanappe, Greek Program Coordinator at Fulbright Foundation Greece, and Emeritus Professor Lehman Fletcher, U.S. Fulbright Alumnus, were delivered in the open courtyard, followed by a guided tour through the museum and its fascinating history of the University of Athens.

The following day, on Thursday, May 23, The Fulbright Association paid a visit to the National Technical University of Athens for a debriefing to the students at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering on the aims and history of the Fulbright Program. The group was welcomed by the Dean of the NTUA, Dr. Nectarios Koziris, whereas Isidoros Kampolis, recent Fulbright Alumnus of the Doctoral Dissertation program was also present.

Marina Cheilitsi, Cultural Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, spoke on behalf of the Public Affairs Office, and Nicholas Tourides, American Program Coordinator and Educational Advisor at Fulbright Foundation Greece, gave a brief overview of Fulbright Greece and the services and scholarships it provides. The U.S. Fulbright Association participants gave some meaningful remarks on how to choose and apply to U.S. universities and on the prestige of the Fulbright Program.
