FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR PROGRAM: GLOBAL SCHOLAR AWARD

Photography and History of Photography, Stanford University, California

During my six-month 2018-2019 Global Scholar Fulbright Fellowship I photographed libraries throughout Greece, Italy and Israel. This experience allowed my wife and collaborator Ellen Manchester and I to dig deeper into the nature of libraries in each of these countries. We were particularly interested in the interaction between libraries and refugees but we also followed many other ideas as the situations arose. The process of photographing during the Fulbright led us to several new insights into libraries, literacy, education and the cultures in which we lived. We will eventually publish a book or series of books from this work. I am very grateful to the Fulbright for making this possible.
