Up to 4 grants are available to Ph.D. candidates who would like to conduct independent doctoral level research during academic year 2025-2026. See "Candidate Profile" for a description of this award.

Grants must begin in one of the following months: September, October, November or December. Grants cannot begin after December. All grants need to conclude by end of June.
Orientation
In-Country Orientation
Grantees are encouraged to participate in a two-day orientation program organized by the Fulbright Foundation in Greece in late September 2025 and/or a seminar in Spring 2026.
Candidate Profile
The Greek State Scholarship Foundation – IKY in collaboration with Fulbright Greece will fund up to four awards to Ph.D. candidates for dissertation research purposes. These grants cover a six-month period and provide comparable benefits as all other Fulbright student awards to Greece. Ph.D. candidates from all disciplines are eligible to apply.

Independent research projects with minimal support from local English speaking hosts may require a good command of the Greek language. Some study of Modern Greek prior to arrival is encouraged in order to promote deeper engagement with the host community. This grant does not provide a stipend for Greek language lessons.

Applicants are required to secure affiliation(s) in Greece and submit letters of invitation/affiliation indicating name/position of host and details on the collaboration with one or more Greek State Universities and/or research organizations/institutions. Projects must be well formulated and achievable under the guidance of one or more advisers/mentors at the affiliated universities and/or research institutions/organizations. The Fulbright Foundation in Greece can assist candidates with affiliations but it is up to the candidate to secure a host institution/organization. Grant Benefits
- Monthly maintenance allowance at 1,650 euro

Visa/Residence Permit Information
Candidates will work with Fulbright Greece to obtain the correct visa and necessary documentation for their arrivals. Visas to Greece for Fulbrighters are provided free of charge. This type of visa is also a residence permit which covers the total grant period and allows for travel in and out of Greece and the Schengen Treaty Area.
