Justin Mann is a PhD candidate in the Program in Mediterranean Art and Archaeology at the University of Virginia. His scholarly interests include landscape and survey archaeology, ceramic studies, and anthropological applications to Byzantine Studies. His dissertation research focuses on the definition and archaeological reassembly of monastic landscapes during the Middle Byzantine period, particularly, in central Greece. With the Fulbright scholarship, Justin will collect data at multiple Byzantine monastic sites to aid in further illuminating both the development and broad influence of these important social institutions. While in Greece, his research will be based out of Athens and Thebes.
