Diane Harris Cline is an ancient Greek historian and an associate professor of history at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She was a student Fulbright scholar in 1987-8 at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. In her cross-disciplinary research, she applies social network analysis to study the social relationships in ancient Greece. With a BA in classics from Stanford and PhD in classical archaeology from Princeton, Cline has taught a wide range of courses on Greek history, archaeology, religion, mythology, literature, and culture and won the highest teaching awards at both the University of Cincinnati and at George Washington University. Cline is also the author of two books, The Treasures of the Parthenon and Erechtheion (Oxford) and The Greeks: An Illustrated History (National Geographic). Her Fulbright semester (Spring 2019) will be spent at the University of Crete, Rethymno, where she will be hosted by the Department of History and Archaeology in the School of Philosophy. Her project is to develop her social network research to prepare to write her next book on innovation in ancient Greece, and teach workshops for students on extracting data and mapping relationships using ancient Greek historical topics, and other topics in the digital humanities.
