My name is Paraskevi Vlazaki and I am an EFL instructor, working in secondary schools in the Heraklion prefecture for the past decade. My academic background includes a BA (Hons) in English Language and French and a Master’s degree in European Languages and Intercultural Studies, both awarded by ARU in Cambridge, UK. Upon graduation, I started working in ELT publishing, creating and evaluating material to be used in the EFL classroom. However, I was later appointed as an EFL teacher in Secondary Education and I have been working with teens in a classroom environment ever since. I am a strong proponent of European programs at school, and have participated in a number of Erasmus+ and eTwinning initiatives throughout my years in service. It is my belief that being a teacher and working with adolescents is one of the most rewarding feelings in life.

As for my academic interests, they are focused mainly on the integration of ICT in the EFL classroom, the effective use of CLIL techniques and the integration of migrant children in the classroom. The surge of migrant populations in Greece in recent years has certainly raised the issue of the effective integration of migrant children in the school environment. Consequently, this is one of the issues that I wish to further explore academically.

The SUSI program provides the unique opportunity to explore US institutions within an academic context, but also allows interaction with US citizens in their everyday lives. I am particularly interested in gaining first-hand experience of the US way of life, researching the idea of citizenship and belonging and how this is perceived within the community, as well as deepening my understanding of US institutions and their role. I am looking forward to sharing this unique experience offered by the Fulbright Foundation.
