Alexandros L. Zografos was born in Athens, Greece. He graduated as a chemist in 1996 from National University of Athens. After earning his PhD in 2001 from National Technical University of Athens, he pursued postdoctoral studies at The Scripps Research Institute, USA and at Columbia University, New York, USA. Then, he moved back to Greece to work as a senior researcher at National University of Athens and at NCRS Demokritos Institute. In 2008 he began his independent career at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where now he is Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry.
His group is working on the total synthesis of natural products and the exploration of common synthetic strategies towards diverse natural molecular structures. Also his group is interested in the development of novel methodologies for CH-activation and late stage functionalization of organic substrates.
Fulbright Foundation will provide the opportunity to join forces with colleagues from Stanford University to provide solutions in longstanding problems, as the asymmetric halogenation of hydrocarbons.
