Ira Kaliampetsos is a practicing lawyer and co-founder and director of the Hellenic Society for Law and Archaeology, a non-profit organization established in 2006 in Athens, Greece, dealing with all aspects of antiquities law. Her professional experience includes working for the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey. She lectures at an international level on antiquities law and has organized various research projects and conferences on the issue. Her research interests are focused on the legal protection of archaeological heritage, with a focus on combating illicit excavation and trafficking as well as preventing destruction of cultural heritage. She has been proposed as member of the Advisory Committee for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Objects of the Greek Ministry of Culture. She earned her law degree from the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany and continued her postgraduate studies on art and law at the Karl-Franzens-University, Austria.
