Isidoros Kampolis is a PhD candidate at the Department of Geological Sciences, School of Mining & Metallurgical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with the Group of Palaeoenvironment & Ancient Metals Study, Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, National Center for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’. He holds a BSc in Geology & Environment and an MSc in ‘Geography – Environment’ from the Department of Geology & Geoenvironment, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. His main research activities include cave geology-geomorphology (both underground and underwater), speleothem science, climate change, stable isotope geochemistry and sea level changes. Mr. Kampolis bears a 3-year experience as a research associate in EU-funded geo-projects at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and has been a member in various scientific studies in Greece as well as abroad. He is also a speleologist, a cave diver and a scientific diver, skills which are employed during his research. His fieldwork includes countries like Egypt and Hungary. He enjoys doing research in the submarine environment and loves exploring nature.

Mr. Kampolis’ research is focused in revealing climatic and sea level changes throughout the study of speleothems in dry and submerged caves in Greece. For part of his research, he has been awarded a short-term scholarship by the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). During his research stay in the US and at the University of South Florida, Isidoros will work under the guidance of Prof. Bogdan Onac, an expert in Palaeoclimate and Cave Geology and he will attempt a reconstruction in the palaeoclimate of Southern Greece for the late Quaternary.

His future plan is having a career in research or in the academic sector.
