Contemporary History

Anastasios Panoutsopoulos is a PhD Candidate in Modern and Contemporary Greek History at the University of Athens, under the supervision of Professor Evanthis Hatzivassiliou. He holds an MA in Modern and Contemporary Greek History and a BA in Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology from the same University. He was a Visiting Research Student at the Hellenic Observatory at London School of Economics. His research interests focus on contemporary Greek and Cypriot history, the history of the Third World and the Cold War. His doctoral dissertation examines how Greece and Cyprus perceived and stood towards decolonization in Africa during the 1960s.

He is visiting Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University in New York, as a Fulbright Doctoral Dissertation scholar, in order to undertake archival research and study the latest trends in the theory of international relations under the supervision of Professor Robert Jervis.

After completing his PhD thesis, Anastasios would like to pursue a career in academic research. He speaks Greek, English and Russian.
