Katerina Kandyliari is a PhD candidate in Food Science and Human Nutrition at the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. She quickly realized that in life her strong drivers were knowledge, curiosity and new cultural experiences. Therefore, she decided that an academic career was ideal for her. Following a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Athens, Katerina chose to pursue her PhD degree in the area of Food and Nutrition. Her research interests focus on maximizing fish utilization towards human health. She is investigating the exploitation fish by-products for the production of innovative food products. She is the co-author of research papers in international journals and international conference proceedings. As a Visiting Research Student at Yale University/ Yale School of Public Health, Katerina will carry out a research on the bioactivity of selected isolates, necessary to further invest in evidence-based valorization of fish by-products. She believes that, the opportunity to be immersed in a new academic culture, to gain scientific inspiration and to engage with researchers at the forefront, will be extremely beneficial and impactful towards building her academic identity. Katerina wants to become an established researcher in the field of Food Science. Thus, gaining an international experience and acquiring a broad and open view of the world is paramount towards the pursuit of an academic career.
