Kostas Mavrakis is a PhD student in the laboratory for Biophotonics and Molecular Imaging (LBMI) in the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) at the Foundation for Research and Technology. He is enrolled in the Materials and Science Department of the University of Crete, from where he received his Master's and Bachelor degree. His interests involve nonlinear microscopy including Photoacoustic microscopy, Second Harmonic Generation microscopy and Coherent Raman Scattering (CRS) microscopy. During his visit at the University of Boston and Professor's Cheng group, he will focus on Coherent Raman Scattering and the investigation of samples related to neuro-degenerative diseases. In the long term, he aspires to assemble the first CRS microscope in Greece and contribute to the battle against neuro-degenerative diseases.
