My scientific field is Seismology. In the last 15 years I have been working on the effects of large earthquakes to the public and the environment, self-protection measures, experiential learning and earthquake simulation. Recently, I have been coordinating my efforts with Prof. Pat Bodelson of StCloud State University towards the formulation of a global disaster response plan that could be globally implemented.
The Fulbright award affords me a great opportunity in studying in situ the NIMS model and learning from the experts in large scale natural disasters response at St. Cloud and Kennesaw State University. My desire is to visit and be updated on these subjects at FEMA. Moreover, I have already contacted colleagues from the University of Colorado and the USGS in Pasadena for lectures and collaboration.
I believe the overall experience to be gained is invaluable. Taking into account the increasing risk of certain areas in the planet from disasters, I hope that my work will contribute to the efforts for more effective response to natural disasters.
