Spyretta Golemati is Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering in the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Athens, Greece. She holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering from Imperial College London. Her research interests include (a) ultrasound image analysis, (b) biosignal processing, and (c) vascular physiology and pathophysiology. She is Associate Editor of Elsevier's journal 'Ultrasonics'.
In the context of her Fulbright grant, Dr Golemati will visit the Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging Laboratory at Columbia University in the City of New York, to investigate a novel noninvasive method for arterial stiffness estimation, based on ultrasound imaging.
Upon her return, Dr Golemati plans to start a laboratory within the Medical School, focusing on advancing the science and technology of ultrasound and approaching challenging clinical issues using state-of-the-art methods of ultrasound image analysis. Most importantly, Dr. Golemati aims to establish a continuing collaboration between Columbia University and the University of Athens to share knowledge and promote scientific excellence in both institutions.
