Theater with people with neuromuscular disorders
Neurosciences Institute – Neurology Charlotte Carolinas HealthCare System, Charlotte, and At A Site Theater, Asheville, North Carolina

Anna Kapousizi has a B.A. in Greek Philology; Diploma in Acting and M.A in Theatre Studies. She works as an actress, director, and dramatist.
The last 6 years she teaches theater in MDA HELLAS (Institution for people with neuromuscular disorders). Working with people with ‘body limits’ she started developing a process under which specific acting methods could be used in a transformative way within the neurological limits of the disorders. This was the starting point of the project that she plans to develop in the US.
Cooperating with Carolinas Healthcare System Neurosciences Institute ‘RENEW PROGRAM’ and an Alexander Technique teacher, she will try to integrate the two fields-medical and artistic- in producing an acting method specialized for people with neurological diseases. As a result, she will apply the method in the community of people with neurological disorders, through a workshop and a presentation of a performance with both able-bodied and non-able-bodied actors.
Her future plans involve a lot of work with the theater group, ‘ARTimeleia’ that she has established, so that theater with people with disabilities will be an integral part of theatrical reality in Greece. She wants to keep challenging the limits of the world and she never loses faith in the so called ‘impossible’.
