“...The Fulbright experience was extremely valuable to me in each of these three areas. The Program’s reputation created career opportunities that I would not have otherwise had. It is an unequivocal opportunity to communicate proficiency in certain skills that are valuable to employers. These skills are used in applying and receiving a Fulbright Award, and then further developed during the grant period itself.
Before the Fulbright experience, I had only been abroad for a total of seven weeks. Living in Greece for ten months allowed me to better understand my strengths, weaknesses, passions, and challenges. It has been rewarding both personally and professionally to meet and interact with people of many different cultures, and to experience life as a ‘foreigner’. It is challenging to start a new life in a new place, having had little to no prior contact with anyone in the country; and profoundly encouraging to be able to meet that challenge successfully. Finally, I think the friendships I have formed here will last a lifetime.
I feel I have a true understanding of the culture in which I have lived for the past ten months. Furthermore, my ability to understand international issues in general has been enhanced because of the in-depth experience I have had in a culture other than my own...”
