Fulbright Alumni

Since 1948, the Fulbright Foundation has offered free advising services for studies in the United States to thousands of individuals and has awarded Fulbright scholarships to more than 4,700 Greeks and Americans. These Fulbrighters bear eloquent testimony to the status of the exchanges that have occurred and are the best ambassadors of the Program and the Foundation.

Fulbright Alumni Association of Greek Scholars

The Fulbright Alumni Association of Greek scholars, founded in 1978, was among the first ones to be established internationally. The Association is guided by the idea of the program’s founder, Senator J. William Fulbright, to bring together people of different nations and contribute to world peace through better international understanding. There are two chapters, one in Athens and one in Thessaloniki. The Association organizes lectures, social functions and other events that allow its members to pursue the Foundation’s objectives in an informal, yet effective way and to maintain a network that keeps alumni together and active.

Networks for Fulbright alumni in the United States

The US  Fulbright Association, based in Washington, D.C., supports and promotes the Fulbright Program. A private, non-profit organization established by U.S. Fulbright alumni in February 1977, the Association facilitates relationships among, and the public service of, former U.S. Fulbright grantees. It also provides hospitality and enrichment activities for foreign Fulbright students, scholars, and teachers during their stay in the US.

Members include more than 6,000 alumni and friends of the Fulbright Program. Membership is open to former Fulbright grantees of any nationality. However, while the Association has state chapters in the U.S., it does not include foreign Fulbright alumni associations. Membership is also open to those who support the ideals of the Fulbright Program but are not themselves grantees. Nearly 150 colleges, universities and international organizations support the Fulbright Association as institutional members.
